NPT has new Trustees
At the AGM on 25 November, 4 new trustees were elected to the Norwich Puppet Theatre Board; Peter Beck, Sally Goldsmith, Zannie Fraser and Kaja Holloway were invited to the Board from a very strong field of applications on the basis of the skills they could offer. There were several other people who the Board would have liked to have included but the maximum number of Board members has been reached so hopefully those people will be able to work with NPT in other ways. Welcome to them all!

Journalist Kim Briscoe is a keen fan of puppets and an enthusiastic supporter of Norwich Puppet theatre. To give the Adopt-a-Puppet scheme a boost she recently came to the theatre and took some footage of puppeteer Joy Haynes performing the puppets to appeal to adopters. Patrons and supporters

Michael Boyd, director of the Royal Shakespeare Company is a Patron and has sent this message:
"Puppetry is a major international art form In which Britain is under represented. There is a growing demand for puppetry skills from all forms of performance, which is currently being met in large part by artists outside the UK. Support for Norwich Puppet Theatre is an investment in the future of British Theatre."

Welcome to Adopt-a-Puppet

Here you can meet the puppet family of Norwich Puppet Theatre. They need your care to keep them happy. They need money to look after their home, they need ideas to keep them busy, they need love to make them lively and interesting. And they need friends to visit them. You can help to support them by adopting a puppet at Norwich Puppet Theatre. The photographs here are the puppets that are currently up for adoption so you can choose which one to adopt, or you can adopt one on behalf of a friend or relative. Several people can adopt the same puppet. Full details of the scheme are on a pdf you can download below. Click on each picture for a description, and on View All for more puppets. Puppet profiles can be downloaded here –

Once you have adopted a puppet, you can join the Adopt-a-Puppet club, then you will be able to access the other parts of this site. You will receive an invitation to join, and once you have signed up, you can send messages, add photos, record your visits to your puppet and blog your thoughts and ideas. It is your own puppet profile page. You can also communicate with other people that have adopted puppets. Download the form here and adopt one right away! There is also a poster that you can print out to encourage other people to adopt-a-puppet.

Happy Christmas to everyone involved in Adopt-a-Puppet!

We've been thinking about how we develop the Theatre in the future - and came up with the question, "What do people - audiences and artists alike, want the puppet theatre for?"

Here's m starter for ten - and I look forward to your thoughts in your posts!

The added value Norfolk and Norwich gain from a building based Puppet Theatre – especially when there are only 2 in England – is huge, and a rich complement to the other theatres and stu… Continue

Guardian review of recent Suspense Festival in London

Suspense Puppetry Festival: All Grown Up
Date: 2 November 2009

Suspense is the first festival of puppetry to take place in London in over 25 years. 24 companies from the UK and abroad have come together at seven North London venues with a programme of work aimed specifically at adult audiences (running until 8 November). Much is being made of the fact that this festival is not for kids, that puppetry has something to offer adults too. They’re calling it a ‘renaissance’ of the art form an… Continue

Puppet Theatre

Ian Woods, general manager of NPT, on 4th Plinth

We are planning to watch online at 2am - it is the least we can do to support our 'daddy' Ian who is bravely up on the plinth tonight while we are back at the theatre having fun. We don't think he knows that we come out and play at night when the theatre is closed, or that we know how to switch the computers on, though sometimes the staff are baffled and think that the computers have a mind of their own!

Anyway, we are proud of Ian and look forward to seeing what he will do tonight. We have got… Continue
